The most popular section for whitewater
boaters is the 36 miles from Ollalie Campground to just above Leaburg Dam. The
upper stretch between Ollalie and Blue River is a favorite for kayakers as it
offers almost nonstop rapids. The river downstream of Blue River takes on more
of a pool and drop character.
Commercially guided McKenzie river rafting trips are offered daily throughout the summer. These trips are half-day, full-day or two-days in length, and are ideal for first-timers, whitewater enthusiasts and independent travelers. River flows are ideal for rafting just about year round although all but the most avid boaters usually choose to raft the McKenzie from late spring through October.
